Overwhelmed…again!

2017, the 24th year I have helped raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

This is an amazing charity, started 1931 and for most of the time since raising money to support Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital.

It is amazing the number of people the RCH has helped, and the number of hearts it has touched.

There would be lucky to be a family in Victoria that has not had some involvement with the hospital, either as patients, having kids that have been or are patients, or knowing someone who has been or whose kids have been patients.

I spent some time there myself when I was younger, including my 4th birthday….or was it my 5th.  I had a friend and his brother throughout the later years of high school who had to have regular visits and extended stays in the hospital and today, as has happened every year that I have been out collecting, I have heart amazing stories of the wonderful care provided and miracles performed and even met children who would not be here today if it was not for the amazing heroes of the Royal Children’s Hospital.

I would like to take a few moments to thant the doctors, surgeons and nurses who cared for me when I was there, those that have attended to my nieces and nephew when the need has arisen and those who have cared for every child that has unfortunately had to enter through the doors of the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne.

Posting slackness, work and server issues…..

It has been a while since I have posted anything here.  I have been pretty busy with work… so much for being semi-retired.

I cannot complain though, the money is good and so is working in the outdoors.  Definitely a nice change from being stuck in a pokey little office with people who don’t appreciate you.

Even though I only want two or three days a week work lately I have been getting 5 or 6 days…  it does take its toll though, unfortunately, my pain levels creep up and I find it increasingly difficult to get to sleep at night; not good when you have to get up around 5am but somehow I manage to struggle on.

Hmmm, pain….. I am off to the doctors in the morning, finally.  I need to have my situation reviewed as well as having a blood test for alphavirus.   Since my interstate visit last year to an area that was inundated with water and as a result mosquitoes, I have have had full body joint and muscle pain as well as a large number of headaches.  I need to find out what is causing these symptoms, at least if the tests are negative I will be able to discount another possibility.  Considering that there has been a larger than normal rate of infection of Ross River Virus in Victoria it is a posibility (Reference: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/another-231-ross-river-virus-cases-detected-in-victoria-20170223-gujyqx.html)

Oh, and I must apologies for my webserver, for some (still unknown) reason it has nee playing up recently.  I changed from Apache to Nginx a few months back to minimise resource usage on the server.  Unfortunately this is my first experience with Nginx and I guess I still have some tweaking to do with  it is running WordPress.  Some changes have been made again this afternoon, hopefully they will prove to be beneficial.

Who broke Twitter?

Ok, so I know it is not the end of the world but now the WordPress plugin that posts notification of my new ramblings here into the Twittersphere is not working.  To compound matters when I use their support for to find out why I get:

This is on top of the issues I have been having with my ADSL2+ for the past several days since we were hit but bucketfuls of rain and wind.

Oh, and don’t let me forget it appears that all internet traffic from Australia to the northern hemisphere appears to be going via Hong Kong……. did someone break the Southern Cross Cable again?

CBD (Cannabidiol): The Medicine of the Future | Marijuana News

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spent a fair deal of time hoping that the medical establishment would begin transitioning to more user-friendly, safer drugs. So many of the medicines doctors prescribe today are damaging or downright dangerous, and it’s easy to wonder if the results are worth the price consumers pay – both financially and physically.

Twitter and stuff!

Well here I am back again.  The past few days have been hell for me, pain throughout my body to the point where I don’t want to get out of bed and I struggle even lifting a glass to take a drink.

Christmas………

Christmas… that time of year which used to be reserved for late December, but now seems to start around Halloween.

I really don’t care for Christmas;  I am not Christian, or of any faith for that matter, I do not believe in god, Jesus may have been a real man but I honestly doubt he was born of a virgin nor do I believe he had magical powers that could cure the ill, turn water into wine, etc, etc, etc.

Sunday, bloody Sunday…….

Who would Have thought I would have woken before the sun on a Sunday morning, especially when I hadn’t been out all night?  Woke up with a stabbing pain in my left knee, the pain is not unusual in that knee, but being woken by it is.  One of my best friends is suffering pain in the same location, maybe my knee is going out in sympathy with hers?

It was foggy this morning, after all it is Spring and the weather is beginning to improve; forecast for Melbourne today is 31°C.  Can’t see Melbourne from here, but it will most likely reach and pass that anyway.  Most of the fog has burned off now and it is warming up quickly, should be a beautiful day.

Busy, busy, busy….

My plans were to at least try and post here once a week, if not a little more often.  Like all good intentions things don’t always work out the way you want.

I’ve been having a hell of a time trying to find out what is causing this pain throughout my body, initial blood tests came back all clear, good I guess.  Speaking with a friend last week she pointed out that it began soon after I returned from interstate; where I was had a bit of a mosquito plague occurring and I have decided to go back to my GP and ask them to test me for Ross River virus and any of its nasty little cousins.  The symptoms I have, apart from the pain present a good case that it maybe some sort of alphavirus I am suffering from.

I have finally got around to doing a little more work on this blog site tonight, now if you want to be kept up to date when I add new posts you can subscribe and (hopefully) the website will send you an email notifying you of my new post(s).  This is in addition to being able to use any one of a number of social networks to log in and leave comments on my posts.

Apart from that I have been trying to keep myself busy, seems to be working overall, and gives me less time to feel down and takes my mind off the pain.

The roller coaster (or ultra-ultra-rapid bipolar disorder)

To think it is 20 years since I was referred to a professional to assist me with what was going on in my head.  I had been at the time, for a number of years experiencing great changes in my mood, being over happy and full of life one moment and then extremely depressed the next, and cycling between these two often in less than a day.

Insomnia….

“The last refuge of the insomniac is a sense of superiority to the sleeping world.” – Leonard Cohen

Like billions of people around the world, no doubt, I suffer from insomnia.  I have for as long as I can recall, at least since my early days of high school.  Who knows what caused it back then, hormones, growing pains, staying up late finishing homework, last minute study from exams.
